Sydney Australia March 2008 - 42 photos - 1017 views Luna Park, Sydney's Coney Island-type amusement park on Sydney Harbour, opened in the 1930s but closed in the mid-1960s after a fire razed one of its buildings. After a few false starts, Luna Park finally reopened in April 2004 and has been open daily since then. This entertainment venue, with ferris wheel, merry-go-round and other carnival rides, is a favorite of the young and the young at heart. It's no more than a five-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of Australia's most well known and photographed landmarks. It is the world's largest (but not the longest) steel arch bridge with the top of the bridge standing 134 metres above the harbour. Fondly known by the locals as the 'Coathanger', the Sydney Harbour Bridge celebrated its 70th birthday in 2002, with its official opening in March 1932. |
