Guinness Storehouse Dublin Ireland
Dublin, the capital of Ireland, is renowned for its relaxed charm and rich cultural heritage. Its history, which dates back to the Viking era when its first streets were laid, is steeped in richness. The city's vibrant artistic flair, influenced by the likes of Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, and Jonathan Swift, coupled with the Irish tradition of living in the present, known as 'craic', has molded Dublin into the cosmopolitan city it is today.
Dublin is a city of cyclists, boasting over 120 miles of bike lanes. The city's bike scheme provides 450 bicycles for public use and 40 bike stations scattered across the city. A half-hour bike ride can take you from one end of Dublin to the other.
A visit to Dublin would be incomplete without a stop at the Guinness Storehouse, Ireland's top tourist attraction. Located in an old fermentation plant at the heart of St James's Gate Brewery, this seven-story visitor center brings to life the history of Ireland's iconic beverage and the heritage of this globally renowned beer.
The journey begins at the base of the world's largest pint glass, which ascends through the building. This captivating tale, which started over 250 years ago, concludes in Gravity Bar, the highest bar in Dublin, where visitors are treated to a complimentary pint of Guinness while taking in breathtaking views of Dublin.
My visit to the Guinness Storehouse was an absolute delight. The tour was not only interesting but also highly informative, making it a memorable experience. It was undoubtedly the highlight of my Dublin trip. The self-guided tour walked me through the Guinness-making process, the family history, the distribution, the marketing, and finally, the pouring of my own pint and a taste of the beer. It was a fantastic experience that I look forward to reliving.
I had the privilege of presenting at the Open Source Summit Europe, a significant gathering for open-source code and community contributors. The summit brings together open-source developers, technologists, and community leaders from around the globe to collaborate, share information, solve problems, and gain knowledge, thereby advancing open-source innovation and ensuring a sustainable open-source ecosystem.
Two significant announcements were made at the conference: the transfer of PyTorch from Meta to the Linux Foundation and the launch of Linux Foundation Europe. PyTorch, an open-source machine learning framework developed by Meta, has a vibrant open-source community with over 2,000 contributors. By transitioning PyTorch to the Linux Foundation, Meta aims to invigorate the open-source community and position the project within a neutral ecosystem.
Linux Foundation Europe aims to establish a neutral governance entity in Europe. At present, some European organizations find it challenging to join the Linux Foundation, an American governance entity. Linux Foundation Europe hopes to eliminate this obstacle and expedite open-source adoption within Europe. The first project under its purview is OpenWallet, an open-source alternative to Apple Wallet and Android Wallet, among others, which could serve as a foundational platform for developing new digital wallets.
