Guinness Storehouse Dublin Ireland September 2022

Famous for its easygoing charm and cultural heritage, the Irish capital of Dublin is steeped in rich history, starting with the Vikings laying its first streets. An unruly artistic streak (thanks to Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, and Jonathan Swift) and the Irish way of living in the moment (called ‘craic’) has helped shape Dublin into the cosmopolitan city it is today. Dubliners are pedal pushers. The city has over 120 miles of cycle tracks, and Dublin’s bike scheme has 450 bikes for public use and 40 bike stations around the city. You can cycle from one side of Dublin city to another in half an hour.

Guinness Storehouse, Ireland's No. 1 visitor attraction is a "must see" on any visit to Dublin. Housed in an old fermentation plant in the heart of St James's Gate Brewery, the now seven-storey visitor experience tells the story of Ireland's iconic drink and beings to life the heritage of this world famous beer. Your journey begins standing at the bottom of the world's largest pint glass, which rises through the building. It is a dramatic story that begins over 250 years ago and ends in Gravity Bar, Dublin's highest bar where you will receive a complimentary pint of Guinness while enjoying spectacular views over Dublin.

I simply cannot say how fun I had at the Guiness Storehouse. The tour was interesting and very informative which by itself already makes a great experience to have. Probably the highlight of my trip to Dublin. The self guided tour takes me through the process of making Guinness, the family, the distribution, the marketing and finally pouring one myself and a drink of the beer. Fantastic experience and I would like to revisit it again later!

I was one of the presenter at the Open Source Summit Europe in Europe, a great gathering place for open-source code and community contributors. Open Source Summit Europe brings together open source developers, technologists, and community leaders from around the world to collaborate, share information, solve problems and gain knowledge, furthering open source innovation and ensuring a sustainable open source ecosystem.

At the conference, there were two major announcements made: The transfer of PyTorch from Meta to Linux Foundation and the announcement of Linux Foundation Europe. PyTorch is an open source machine learning framework that was developed by Meta. The Open Source community of PyTorch has more than 2,000 contributors. By bringing PyTorch to the Linux Foundation, Meta wants to give the open source community a boost and place the project under a neutral ecosystem.

The goal of Linux Foundation Europe is to create a neutral governance entity in Europe. Currently, it is difficult for some organizations in Europe to join the Linux Foundation because Linux Foundation is an American governance entity. The hope is Linux Foundation Europe will remove this barrier and accelerate open source adoption within Europe. The first project is OpenWallet, which is an open source alternative to your Apple Wallet and Android Wallet, among others, and can provide a general basis for building new digital wallets.
